Crisis Community of Practice

10 Apr 24

First Meeting - Launch Event

Date: Wednesday 13th March 2024

Time: 11:00am-12:30pm

It was wonderful to welcome over 30 people to the launch event of the Crisis Community of Practice in mid-March. Thank-you to everyone who came along, as well as those who have joined the growing membership of the community which is currently standing at 49 members.

We started our discussions with an outline of the six-month project that we are undertaking. This focuses on the writing of a paper, and the associated coming together of those interested in the development of crisis teams. The focus of this work is understanding and building on psychologically informed care and provision in crisis teams across the South-East.

We split into smaller groups to discuss what people would like from the community of practice, some initial sharing of challenges of working in a crisis team and sharing of best practice. This generated some really interesting themes and discussions which included:

  • The importance of the work with people when they first enter a crisis
  • A lack of clarity around the different roles in CRHT's
  • An appetite for psychological training across crisis teams
  • The gradual shift from a medical model to a biopsychosocial model of care
  • Significant variation in the way crisis teams and psychology within crisis teams works between teams and trusts
  • The wider context of crisis teams and need for good systemic relationships

It was motivating and uplifting to hear of some of the innovative work already going on in the area, and publications by members of the group that can be shared. There was also a sense that CRHT work can feel isolating, and that coming together with like-minded clinicians was useful and connecting.

We look forward to welcoming CCoP members to the next event which will be scheduled for late May 2024. We plan to focus this meeting around sharing innovative work and models used in teams in the South-East.

Please always feel free to get in touch with us anytime about the project or the events.
