Clinical Associates in Psychology (CAP) Training Receives National Award

The Group of Trainers in Clinical Associates in Psychology (GTiCA(A)P) were recently awarded the prestigious Best Educational Programme for the NHS at the Health Services Journal Partnership Awards. GTiCA(A)P was also Highly Commended for the Mental Health Partnership within the NHS award. This follows the CAP NHS Trailblazer group having won the Workforce Initiative of the Year HSJ Award 2022.

The judges on the winning panel described CAPs “as an accessible training pathway which embeds widening participation and demonstrable benefit to communities. This is workforce transformation and has recognisable service benefit across systems and MDTs.” The award was collected by GTiCA(A)P chairs and members, NHS Trailblazers, CAP supervisors and, most importantly, CAPs themselves.

GTiCA(A)P is a collaborative, made up of 10 providers who are focused on training Associate Psychologists across the UK. CAPs are having a substantial impact in the services that they have been commissioned – reducing waiting times, improving care and enabling meaningful transformation. These awards demonstrate the importance and impact that CAPs are having on the ground. English CAPs started in the South West and the role is now established across England.
