Psychological Professional Needed to Speak at the Turners Syndrome Society Annual Conference, Saturday 10th October 2015
Message from Dr Stewart Rust, Consultant Clinical Psychologist in Neuropsychology Paediatric Psychosocial Service Royal Manchester Children's Hospital:
The Turners Syndrome Society conference is held annually at Park Hall in Chorley in October. We do regular slots on speaking to teens and families about coping with the condition etc. This year they were due to have Adult Clinical Health Psychologists to talk to the adult women with Turners, however unfortunately they are no longer able to attend.
We were wondering if anyone with psychological expertise in working with women, their families and friends with Turners Syndrome who would be able to volunteer their services to speak at this event. The conference is on Saturday 10th October in Chorley. The organisers are able to juggle the morning programme to suit and so any time at all in the morning from 10.20 onwards would be available.
The whole focus of the conference this year is psychological well-being. The focus of the session would therefore be general psychological wellbeing, managing your own mental health and ways of accessing support if you have concerns. The society is marvellously run by Arlene Smyth and is something of a labour of love for her having her own daughter who is also a young woman with Turners syndrome. Arlene has set up the society as a source of excellence in information provision to the children young people and families and friends of women with TS.
