Armed Forces Week - from NHS Employers
Throughout the week, we’ll also be taking a look back at some of the stories and experiences we have shared from NHS reservists working throughout the UK’s Armed Forces.
Monday 20 June: Why I became a reservist - Navy reservist and consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon, Harry Rourke, from The Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust, talks about his experiences.
Tuesday 21 June: The sky’s the limit - Squadron Leader Alex Norman, a GP working in South West London and a medical officer and flight commander at RAF Brize Norton, shares his experiences as a new member of the reserve forces.
Wednesday 22 June: From the ward to a war zone - Lt Colonel Patricia Cook is an advanced practitioner in neurosurgery at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and a reservist based at 207 Field Hospital in Manchester. Here, Patricia shares her story of deployment to Iraq in 2004.
Thursday 23 June: Charting an academic course - Surgeon Lieutenant Commander Stuart Roberts works as a medical officer with the Royal Navy Reserve (RNR) as well as a trainee neurosurgeon at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. Here, Stuart shares why he became a reservist, and the academic opportunities this has given him.
Friday 24 June: Going green: experiences of a new reservist - Leading Air Craftwoman Paula Colclough is an assistant practitioner in Accident & Emergency and an RAF reserve. Here she explains how and why she took on the challenge of being a reservist.
Saturday 25 June: The benefits of being and working with a reservist - Nick Medway is practice engagement, quality and governance manager at NHS Fylde and Wyre CCG and has been a reservist for 30 years. Here he shares his experiences as an NHS reservist over the decades
