Psychological Professions Week 2024
Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioners (MHWP): Progress and Innovation with this Developing Role
PPN Midlands first event during Psychological Professions Week 2024 focused on innovation with Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioners (MHWP) in specialised settings. Dr Luke Mitcheson and Dr Sarah Stacey shared insights into the implementation of MHWPs within community drug and alcohol treatment settings. Debbie Hart and Karina Cichocka, MHWPs working in these roles, provided an inside look at their day-to-day responsibilities and highlighted how their role has enriched the Multi-Disciplinary Team.
Career Development for CAPs Post- Qualification: Opportunities and Approaches.
This second event was hosted by the national network of CAP trainers (GTiCA(A)P). Tutors from three CAP courses in England provided an overview of the opportunities for career development that CAPs can consider post-qualification, and outlined suggestions for how CAPs can use this information to plan their own careers and continuing professional development.

Applying Opportunities and Approaches to CAP Personal Career Plans.
This online workshop, hosted by PPN Midlands Community of Practice for CAP, with the support of Nottingham Trent University, was specifically for CAP and Apprenticeship CAP post holders based in England. It provided an opportunity for delegates to reflect in small breakout groups on the content that they had just heard in the 10am presentation, and think about how to apply these concepts into their own professional lives.

The Psychological Professions Network (PPN) Midlands celebrated its 4th anniversary with a webinar to highlight achievements, including a membership growth exceeding 2,500 members and dissemination of over 160 bulletins. A key focus was the integration of health psychology into workforce redesign, showcased through a pilot project funded by NHS England’s Workforce Transformation Programme. Trainee Health Psychologist Helena Lee shared key insights from the Midlands experience, including the "Quality Conversations" project, which aimed to enhance access to and effectiveness of healthcare within the Derbyshire Integrated Care System.
In-person event 1: PPN Midlands Community of Practice Co-chairs and Midlands Chief Psychological Professions Officers
PPN Midlands held two in-person events on 25th September, the first of which brought together co-chairs from our growing Communities of Practice along with Chief Psychological Professions Officers, marking a significant milestone in our collaborative journey over the past 4 years. The event served as an opportunity for co-chairs from our 5 Communities of Practice to reflect on and share successes, benefitting from the expertise of the Chief Psychological Professions Officers in attendance who added further depth to conversations. Attendees also had the opportunity to discuss a range of topics with Adrian Whittington, NHS Clinical Lead for Psychological Professions, who provided an insightful update on the national context and emerging workstreams.
In-person event 2: PPN Midlands Lived Experience Networking
The second event focused on bringing together Lived Experience Coordinators, Lead Peer Mentors, and professionals committed to enhancing lived experience involvement across Midlands NHS Trusts, and Higher Education Institutions that deliver psychological professional training programmes. This event was the culmination of a co-produced scoping and mapping project led by Paul Edwards, PPN Midlands Expert by Experience. It provided a valuable platform for participants to share successful lived experience engagement initiatives and practices, and mark the beginning of discussions to build a Midlands Lived Experience community to share practice.
PPN Midlands Psychological Professions Careers Resource Pack
The purpose of this pack is to bring together a wide range of career-related information, presented as summaries and links to stakeholder websites. Our hope is that it will enable our members across the Midlands – who include aspiring and practising psychological professionals, service managers, workforce planners and other stakeholders - to navigate and better understand the rapidly evolving career-related developments across the sector.

The Psychological Professions in the Midlands: Workforce Overview Report, April 2023
In collaboration with NHS England’s Workforce, Training and Education Directorate and Chief Psychological Professions Officers from across the region, PPN Midlands have developed a Workforce Overview report.
The project was initiated by PPN Midlands to inform regional workforce planning conversations and developments. It aims to provide a picture of the psychological professions workforce to inform planning at multiple levels, and in conjunction with other local and regionally held information, it will support effective workforce planning and set a baseline from which to measure expansion requirements over coming years

PPN Midlands Glossary
Acronyms can be very useful and make things easier for ourselves; we may make assumptions that our peers understand what they mean. Except, they can make things harder for some who are unfamiliar with their meanings. We were made aware of this by our Midlands Experts by Experience so have created a glossary of commonly used acronyms within the PPN.

'PPN Midlands Health Inequalities Showcase' Resources
This showcase, in April 2022, allowed our members to showcase the work they are doing to address and share what needs to be done to combat health inequalities across the Midlands within healthcare. We had some powerful talks surrounding approaches to equality, diversity and inclusion, including increasing awareness of deaf services and conversations from the other side of the barrier.
