The psychological professions are a diverse and expanding part of the NHS workforce, made up of 21 distinct roles. These include psychologists, psychological therapists and practitioners, art, drama and music therapists, and medical psychotherapists.
Rooted in the disciplines of psychology and psychological therapy, our work spans a wide range of NHS settings. Psychological professionals support people of all ages to prevent and treat mental health difficulties, manage emotional distress, and promote wellbeing in both mental and physical health contexts.
We also work across communities, services, and systems to build psychological capacity in the wider workforce, inform education and workforce planning, influence service transformation, and lead innovation in psychologically informed care.
