Promoting Excellence In Psychological Health & Wellbeing

“Working with people who self-injure” - new course at UCLan and online

10 Mar 23

There is a new short course and online learning resource at UCLan provided by Dr Gillian Rayner Reader/Associate Professor in Counselling & Psychotherapy to help you. This course will be provided three times in the next year, one in person and two online. You can attend the course on its own or purchase the course, use of the online resource with as many people as you like and six sessions of online supervision. No prior professional qualifications are required and this can be used at any level of intervention by any staff. This training and resource is based on the NICE guidelines for people who self-harm (2022) and is a “tailor made” integrated CBT and compassion focused therapy (CFT) approach for people who self-injure based on best available evidence. This is linked to an online resource (like a workbook) that people can use as guided self-help or as an adjunct to therapy or other helping relationship.

Gill has over 30 years clinical and educational experience as a nurse, psychotherapist, lecturer and researcher working with people who self-harm/self-injure and providing training and supervising staff from many different backgrounds in health, social care, forensic settings, housing and education. She has also published and researched widely in this area and is passionate about having clear interventions that most people can use to help.
