Eating Disorders & Disordered Eating in the Perinatal Period: Supporting Women with Eating Disorders and Pregnancy

This conference will update delegates on the important issue of Eating Disorders & Disordered Eating in the Perinatal Period, and how we can better Support Women with Eating Disorders and Pregnancy. The event will focus on learning from lived experience, understanding why pregnancy can be triggers for eating disorders and exploring how we can better identify women with first episode eating disorders or disordered eating during pregnancy and support those with existing eating disorders that may experience relapse during the perinatal period.  The conference will learn from expert interactive sessions to identify strategies for improving practice in support and treatment.

Perinatal Mental Health Services: Improving Access and Support

This conference focuses on improving perinatal mental health services. By attending this one day conference, you will hear presentations from expert speakers at local and national level. Chaired by Elaine Coote, a Survivor of Postnatal Depression and Author of Eyes without Sparkle and Another Twinkle in the Eye– ‘contemplating another pregnancy after perinatal mental illness’, the conference will open focusing on the lived experience. The conference highlight key policy developments at a national level and share learning from the most recent MBRRACE- UK Report. You will benefit from extended sessions focusing prevention and positive mental health, developing a model of service delivery in which mental and physical health care are integrated into the work of maternity and health visiting services, identifying and supporting women in mental health crisis, improving the quality of mental healthcare for new mothers, supporting men whose wives or partners are experiencing PND, learning from mother and baby units and maternal mental health pilot sites, supporting mothers at higher risk due to birth trauma or previous mental health issues, and supporting women with existing mental health concerns with a case study on Eating Disorders.

Reducing and improving the use of Restrictive Interventions & Practice: Managing Acute Disturbance, Violence and Aggression

This virtual conference will focus on reducing restrictive interventions in line with national guidance and the March 2022 Care Quality Commission Progress Report on Restraint, segregation and seclusion review. The recent report found that not enough progress has been made in reducing the use of restraint and stated that none of the CQC recommendations from Out of sight – who cares? (2020) have been fully achieved.  The conference will also update delegates on practical steps to reduce restrictive practice, implement the CQC recommendations, and bring you up to date on legal developments including the December 2021 Mental Health Units (Use of Force) Act.

A Practical Guide to Effective Non-Medical Prescribing in Mental Health

THURSDAY 17th AUGUST 2023

This conference will look at national developments in non medical prescribing in mental health, improving and maintaining prescribing competence and the use of the national prescribing competency framework in mental health. Extended sessions will focus on developing your skills as an effective non medical prescriber and case studies will demonstrate established practice in non medical prescribing on acute inpatient wards, for dual diagnosis, early intervention in psychosis, forensic mental health, learning disabilities and physical health monitoring. The conference will also look at developing non medical prescribing including auditing your prescribing practice, deprescribing, involving people in prescribing decisions, prescribing decision making and supporting the expansion of non medical prescribing practice in mental health.
