Masters (MSc) and Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) Course in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapies Available at University of Bolton!

19 Jun 23

The Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapies team at the University of Bolton are currently welcoming applications for their Masters (MSc) and Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) Course in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapies courses commencing in September 2023 and January 2024.

Our PGDip CBP is a 2 year part-time course which qualifies candidates as a CBT Therapist at completion. The 3 year MSc is also part-time and offers the additional benefit of completing a research project and dissertation. Our course is Level 2 accredited by the BABCP, providing all candidates need to apply for accreditation upon completion of the PGDip.

You will study practical aspects of cognitive behavioural psychotherapies such as basic principles and techniques as well as assessment and formulation. You will also consider wider issues such as the evaluation of literature, disorder-specific models and protocols, therapeutic practice, research methods, evidence based-practice, professional issues and ethical practice. Over the course of your studies you will gain a minimum of 200 hours experience of working with clients in a clinical setting through supervised clinical practice placements. The course team pride themselves on the high standards and quality of teaching and supervision provided on the course. All of the clinical supervision required is provided by the course team so no need to source and pay for another supervisor! The course teaches on many clinical disorders not typically covered by IAPT courses so you'll be better equipped as a therapist to deal with a broader range of problems. The course team are all accredited and very experienced practitioners and supervisors. These are just a few of the many reasons why you should choose Bolton for your CBT training!

In the event that you do not hold a core profession according to BABCP criteria, prior to entry to the course you will provide a KSA portfolio of evidence designed to meet the BABCP criteria for accreditation KSA Guidelines (babcp.com)).

Entry requirements include:

A minimum of an upper second class (2.1) honours Psychology-related degree (with high grades in relevant modules);  Level 3 certificate in counselling skills (or equivalent); Previous experience of counselling/therapy and/or client work; A draft KSA Portfolio of evidence of your knowledge, skills and attitudes relevant to working as a cognitive behavioural psychotherapist (details of this will be sent to you prior to interview or please visit the BABCP website: KSA Guidelines (babcp.com)).
