Early Intervention for Psychosis (EIP) Workforce Development: IMPORTANT Update on Training in Family Intervention (FI) and CBT for Psychosis training (CBTp) - Actions that now need to be taken by all trusts and providers of EIP Service

11 Feb 16

1. Family Intervention Training

Following a formal procurement process, the national framework with 10 Family Intervention (FI) training providers is now live. This means trusts are now able to select their preferred training provider and arrange the FI training needed for their EIP teams.

Health Education England has now published the national FI framework. This document provides you with detailed information to support you in choosing a training provider and making contact with them to book places. The training providers offer different opportunities but fundamentally deliver training to support the delivery of NICE concordant care. Further to this, some training providers are offering supervision to support implementation of training and competency development.

View the National FI training framework.

Supervision and backfill

If your chosen training provider does not offer supervision, or offers less than a year’s supervision, HEE will support your trust to provide in-house supervision for up to a year by paying for backfill for the supervisor(s).

Once training places have been taken up, trusts need to submit one invoice for staff backfill before 13 April 2016. Backfill for FI training will only be provided for staff who have completed the training in the 2015/16 financial year. For more information on backfill costs please visit the HEE website

Next steps

All trusts providing EIP services should now, as a matter of priority:

  1. Select their preferred FI training provider from the approved framework
  2. Contact the training provider of your choice to book staff onto a course
  3. Notify This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. of the number of staff and their role who are accessing the training (please notify us as soon as your numbers are finalised to help us ensure we have procured enough training capacity)
  4. Send your trust’s one backfill invoice to Jessica Brook (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) by 13 April 2015

Please note that training places will be filled by providers on a first come first serve basis.
