Application of CBT for Long Term Conditions and Medically Unexplained Symptoms.

Greater Manchester Mental Health Foundation Trust CBT Training Centre has secured funding from Health Education England as a training provider for the application of CBT for Long Term Conditions and Medically Unexplained Symptoms (LTC/MUS), for the North West of England. 

We are currently seeking suitable applicants. You are invited to circulate this information and to nominate appropriate staff to apply for this programme.

6 Month Funded Programme (Including 10 Days of Teaching): Application of CBT for Long Term Conditions and Medically Unexplained Symptoms

8th May, 9th May, 15th May, 22nd May, 12th June, 13th June, 10th July, 11th July, 18th Sept, 19thSept 

Venues: Upstairs Function Room, Whitefield Golf Club, Prestwich, Greater Manchester.

Suitable for: Qualified and experienced High Intensity Therapists wishing to develop their specialist knowledge and CBT skills in working with Long Term Conditions and Medically Unexplained Symptoms. Applicants must have access to appropriate LTC/MUS client groups and have an agreed source of specialist LTC/MUS focused supervision.

• Led by Dr Victoria Carek, with programme delivery from clinical specialists working in the areas of LTC and MUS.

• The programme will include theoretical and skills development components, combining academic presentations, demonstrations and experiential exercises.

• Supervised practice, documented reflective practice and case material will be required.

• Submission of 1 x case report, 1 x clinical video and a reflective portfolio at the end of a 6 month practice period.

• Content of the curriculum is based on Roth & Pilling’s (2015) competency framework for Long Term Persistent and Distressing Health Conditions and will include: assessment, formulation and intervention skills and evidence-based interventions for MUS, IBS, CFS/ME, Chronic Pain, Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, COPD, Coronary Heart Disease and Cancer. 

Service Requirements: Agreement to release the applicant to attend the 10 day programme, provide access to working with the appropriate client group and have arrangements in place to provide specialist LTC/MUS focused supervision. Please see the application form for further details.
